A Day in the Life of a Fashion Blogger - Part Deux

Another day, another one of my favorite fashion bloggers.  Tamar Mendelssohn of The Shoe Diet never disappoints during her photo shoots.  But what helps make her photo day go smoothly?

  1. Catching some air: Jump, spin, skip.  Whatever you do, movement is what takes good photos and makes them great.  The different angles and perspectives add depth and your followers see everything about your outfit to decide if they want to buy it.

  2. Go organic: No. I’m not telling you to adjust your diet.  I’m talking about the shots that are taken in between the “I’m ready!” shots.  The ones where the blogger is adjusting their top, or rummaging through their bag and lacing up their gladiator sandals.  These shots can be so awesome because everyone is seeing someone real, unposed, candid and organic.  It’s more relatable.  Try it!  You’ll like it.

  3. Make the most of your surroundings:  It has become second nature to us, blogger and photographer, to constantly be on the search for cool locations.  But once we find the perfect spot, it doesn’t always work out.  So we generally do the best we can and sometimes stumble upon that diamond in the rough.  And most of the time, simple does it.   You don’t need a huge cool wall but just a little nook.

  4. Sense of style:  Everyone has a style and all of them are different.  That’s what sets the fashion bloggers apart.  Some may share one piece of an outfit and pair it with something so different to make it their own.  That uniqueness is what makes these shoots.  Tamar is one of the most stylish people I know and I’m always wanting to steal the clothes off her back.  But I’ll settle for rummaging through her closets {yes, I said closets}.

  5. Don’t worry; be happy: I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again.  This better be fun for you, because if it’s not, don’t do it!  We have had to reschedule shoots because one of us is too busy or not in the right frame of mind.  Your mood shows in your photos, so keep that in mind before shooting hungover.

Below are a few of our favorites from Tamar's shoots.
